PRESS RELEASE: Music and the Deaf Awarded Funding For Education Work

by Will Hunt News Feed Events Feed

Music and the Deaf is delighted to announce it has been awarded funding to deliver a number of music workshops in schools free of charge!

We are grateful to have received support from The Radcliffe Trust, Santander, and the Morrisons Foundation that will allow us to run full or half-day Access and Inclusion in Music (AIM) workshops in schools, enabling deaf students to access and enjoy the many benefits of music-making and participation.

What’s On Offer

Led by experienced and highly trained leaders, these sessions can have a life-changing impact for a young person with a hearing loss, and can assist in the development of communication and social skills, increase coordination, build confidence, and provide a vital outlet for creative self-expression.

We would like to offer schools the opportunity to access these workshops free of charge (usual cost: £200-400) and bring the many extraordinary benefits of music to their deaf pupils.

  • 13 workshops are available to schools based in the West Yorkshire region in 2017.

  • 36 workshops over three years are available to schools based anywhere in Yorkshire.

  • 12 workshops are available to schools based anywhere in the UK in 2017.

Our music workshops are wholly inclusive of those with special educational needs, and we welcome every child and young person, regardless of their level of hearing. Music and the Deaf offer fully integrated workshops of both deaf and hearing pupils so please let us know upon contacting us if you would like to know more about this.

If your school would like to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity for your deaf and hard of hearing pupils, please get in touch with our Director of Education Sarah McWatt at sarah@matd.org.uk. Please note that priority will be given to those schools Music and the Deaf has not engaged with before.

We would like to thank The Radcliffe Trust, Santander, and the Morrisons Foundation for their kind and generous support, and look forward to inspiring the next generation of deaf and hard of hearing students through music.
