The 4ORTE Ensemble Concert and Workshop at the Sage Gateshead

The 4ORTE Ensemble

Music and the Deaf’s 4ORTE Ensemble will perform at Sage Gateshead, Newcastle, on 1st June 2016 at 8pm!

The 4ORTE Ensemble is a unique group of deaf musicians, featuring Ruth Montgomery (flute), Sean Chandler (cornet), and Danny Lane (piano). They are delighted to be joined by guest performer Eloise Garland (soprano), a third year Music student at City University London, who also has a level of hearing loss.

Programme to include:

  • Georg Philipp Telemann: Fantasia no.12 in G minor

  • Harold Moss: The Nightingale for trumpet and piano

  • Frédéric Chopin: Etude, Op.10, no.3

  • Georges Bizet: Entr’act for flute and piano

  • Johann Hummel: Trumpet Concerto, 1st movement

  • Ian Clarke: Sunstreams for flute and piano

  • Sergei Rachmaninov: Prelude in G minor Op.23 no.5

  • John Hosking: Music - an ode by Algernon Charles Swinburne

The 4ORTE musicians will also give a FREE music workshop from 2-4pm, at Sage Gateshead, Newcastle. Get in touch if you would like your young person to take part in the workshop.

For deaf and hard of hearing children and young people age 8 upwards, their siblings, friends and parents - no musical experience necessary!

  • Make music with the 4ORTE musicians!

  • Explore the musical instruments which the 4ORTE musicians use, including the flute, piano and trumpet!

  • Take part in fun music activities, compose your own music and perform with the 4ORTE musicians!

  • As part of our commitment to develop access, the 4ORTE musicians will give an interactive master class linked to the music being performed at the evening concert

BSL interpreters will be provided

The musicians will then give the concert at 8pm in Sage Two, including talks by the musicians about their experiences as deaf musicians.
